Who Built The Moon – Shinyribs

A folk song by another southern folk/soul group, “Who Built The Moon” by Shinyribs, might just be a top-ten song for me. It is another one of those songs that was on constant rotation in college, but I think, rather than just being part of the soundtrack to college, this one really helped me get through college. It is just one of those ones that is so easy-going and tells such a good story; it was and still is the perfect song to unwind with after a long day.
To me, “Who Built The Moon” is just a really cool song. I love the lyrics and the story they tell about a guy creating the moon to combat loneliness, but the song itself doesn’t feel very lonely or sad. It’s very easygoing and gives off a poignant but mellow feeling.
I don’t know a ton of Shinyribs, but from what I’ve read, frontman Kevin Russell puts on a hell of a show and loves to feature a variety of unique covers along with his original stuff. I’d love to check these guys out one day.
