Eagle Rare – Silverada

My favorite country album of 2024 so far, (Sorry Zach) Silverada‘s self-titled album will probably see an album of the month post at some point later in the year. Formerly known as Mike and the Moonpies, and considered by many to be one of the best live bands in country music today. I have to give all the credit to Trigger over at Saving Country Music for introducing me to these guys, and also partially inspiring me to start this blog. If you’re a fan of country music, or at the very least a hater of the horseshit that gets played on mainstream country radio, I highly recommend his work.
This is one of those songs that you oughtta turn up to eleven. “Eagle Rare” has a certain swagger and coolness to it that I think is only obtained through not caring about swagger or coolness. Smooth and strong chords come from the keys of a Hammond, paired with a catchy as hell guitar riff. The rhythm section chugs along, throw in some badass lyrics, and an epic space cowboy-esque jam smack dab in the middle of it, and you’ll get a 10/10 from me. Honestly, this may be my favorite new song of 2024 so far, but we’ve got a couple of months left before I’ll set that in stone. Lyrically, as I said, this is just an effortlessly badass song, so it’s hard for me to highlight just one verse, but on my first listen of this track when the album came out (late June), the verse following the extraterrestrial jam stood out to me.
Bad boys driving el Caminos Good girls getting rose tattoos Everybody spinning daddy’s records Wearing his cowboy boots All I need is a plain white V neck
So you can see my golden chain As soon as I get next weeks paycheck
I’ll be hopping on an outbound train
Can’t recommend checking these guys or Saving Country Music out enough.
