Here We Go Again – Ray Charles Feat. Norah Jones and Billy Preston

A country music standard, Ray Charles first made “Here We Go Again” a big R’n’B hit in 1967, which is a killer rendition, but in 2004, the same year he passed away, he re-recorded the song with one of my favorite voices of all time, Norah Jones. This track also features the legendary Billy Preston, who of course delivers a beautifully warm performance on the B3. He was Charles’ regular organist for a while.
This song didn’t crack the Hot 100, but it did go on to win a Grammy for Record of the Year, deservedly so. How can you not love the pairing of these two voices, both so smooth and laid back, with beautiful lyrics (written by Don Lanier and Red Steagall)? This is the perfect song to end the day with. Whether you’re relaxing at home or watching the sunset on a beach, Preston’s solo on the Hammond can totally put the mind at ease. I also love that this was recorded live in the studio with the band, with Norah and Ray sitting next to each other on the piano bench. (Per Norah)
