Hybrid Moments – The Misfits

I would consider myself a Misfits enjoyer, having always been aware of their influence, but until a few months ago, I hadn’t explored much (essentially none) of their catalog. Gotta say it took a minute, but I get the allure. I’m interested in diving into more of their stuff.
One of The Misfits’ more well known songs, ‘Hybrid Moments”, for as fast and aggressive as it is, maintains a certain romanticism, as the lyrics are directed to someone. I’m not really sure how to take this song, I take the lyrics pretty metaphorically, but from little I know about Misfits they’re considered a “horror” punk band. (similar to Alice Cooper, a bit more graphic, I think, but I could be way off) So if that’s the case, the lyrics would take on a much more “shock” route in my interpretation.
A quick rant – Due to its heavy rotation and almost torturous mainstream rock radio airplay, “Mother,” by Danzig, was really my first introduction to any sort of Misfits-esque music at a young-ish age. It’s a great damn song and a great intro to a sort of darker, heavier sound that isn’t Sabbath, but I shit you not when I say that I think Glenn Danzig (or his manager) has to have dirt on “big radio.” That song gets played on mainstream rock radio stations on the hour every damn day, it seems. But I digress before this turns into a rant about the music industry’s current state (hmmm). Anywho, I brought that up to point out that I didn’t even realize Danzig was the singer of the Misfits until a few years ago because damn rock radio only plays “Mother,” and I just think that’s a shame.
