Nothing Lady – Dempsey

Honestly, for the life of me, I cannot remember where I first heard this song. It just reappeared on shuffle one day, and I was hooked on it for about a week or so. There’s not a whole lot out there on the band itself, Dempsey, other than some seemingly defunct social media pages. I checked out the album as a whole, and while I wasn’t a huge fan overall, the song “Nothing Lady” in particular is really cool.
Overall, the album seems like an homage to 90s rock music, with “Nothing Lady” seemingly pulling from the grunge movement, and the guitar stylings in the intro make me think of Mike McCready‘s often Hendrix-inspired playing. Overall, the song makes me think “garage rock Pearl Jam,” which is something I can certainly dig. I will say, it’s pretty hard to make out the lyrics here.
Not a whole lot stands out to me about this song, other than it’s a pretty cool tune to listen to, and it was a ton of fun when it first appeared in my library seemingly out of nowhere. I will always appreciate garage rock bands.
