Acid Mountain – Moon Hooch

Moon Hooch. Aside from having one of the best band names ever, which seems to fit their group perfectly, it is one of the most fun bands to listen to, all without any lyrics. Moon Hooch consists of two saxophonists, Wenzl McGowen and Michael Wilbur, and drummer Jules Jenssen.
I could’ve chosen from a couple songs of theirs, and I’ll recommend their awesome Tiny Desk concert if you want more of the space hooch. I decided to go with “Acid Mountain” because it was the song that introduced me to them. I think, my freshman year of college, maybe sophomore. To be totally honest, I thought I had discovered a new group, but quickly realized these guys have been around since 2010, beginning as buskers in NYC and releasing their first album in 2013. I really don’t know enough about horns to know what’s going on, but I love the way this song is arranged. It possesses a certain intensity and power to it that is hard to describe. I never would’ve thought it would be so easy to headband to saxophones, but here we are.
