Panties In Your Purse – Drive By Truckers

A couple of months ago, I had the awesome experience of seeing Mike Cooley of the Drive-By Truckers play a solo acoustic show at Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, one of the coolest shows I’ve ever been to. If you’ve followed the blog for a while, you know the Truckers are one of my all-time favorites and are featured pretty often.
At the Cooley solo show, I got to hear some deep cuts that I never thought I’d hear live. One of those was from the Truckers’ first album, Gangstabilly, “Panties In Your Purse.” Lyrically, it is one of my favorite Truckers songs and probably my favorite from Gangstabilly, which is chock-full of often overlooked lyrical gems.
I saw you standing in the hallway
Red plastic cup and one of them big long cigarettes
You asked me if I could play you some Dylan
I said, “Dylan, who?”, you told me to kiss your ass
