Jessica – The Allman Brothers Band
For today’s post, in sticking with Dickey Betts features this week, here’s another one composed by him about a woman. Shocker! But in this case, rather than a love interest, Dickey created this masterpiece as a tribute to his newborn daughter, Jessica. Betts said that he was trying to capture her attitude within the melody. Pretty cool.
Jessica” was one of the first purely instrumental songs that I really enjoyed, and I remember discovering it at a pretty early age. Dickey composed the song in a style that is a tribute to the legendary jazz guitarist, Django Reinhardt.
Aside from the outstanding happy-go-lucky guitar riffs and solos, I love Chuck Leavell‘s work on the keys. I am giddy with excitement at the high chance I’ll get to see Chuck play this song live on Friday.
