Crosseyed Cat – Muddy Waters

Muddy Waters was probably the first “real” blues that I was introduced to when I was a youngster. I don’t think that I really appreciated it at the time, and it would really take time and an appreciation of Jimi Hendrix and my beginning to hear his influence in my favorite bands growing up (Pearl Jam and the Chili Peppers in particular) to begin to understand his influences and how important the blues really are. I mean I think it’s pretty fair to without the blues we ain’t got nothin.
I have no idea what this song is about. Is it some innuendo, similar to the album title, or is it actually about Muddy trying to court a lady who has a giant mean old cross-eyed feline? Musically, bluesy as hell (duh) and featuring a great solo from Johnny Winter (who also produced the album and was instrumental in Muddy’s “comeback”).
