Kerosene! – Yves Tumor

Electronic psychedelic? I think this is probably the best way to describe Yves Tumor‘s track “Kerosene!” I am giving it a real listen for the first time at the time of writing and am a bit awestruck. It tickles my brain in an almost perfect way. Neo-Soul vocals with production that is reminiscent of Childish Gambino but has an almost Brittany Howard/Alabama Shakes flair to it. If you follow the blog, you know I am elated at that concept.
There is something in the production of this song that is almost dreamlike, like being suspended in zero gravity, but simultaneously being covered by a warm blanket.

If you listen hard, you can hear the buildup and subsequent explosion into a ripping solo that was in part sampled from 1978’s “Weep In Silence” by Uriah Heep. Sample breakdown linked below. Diana Gordon is the female vocalist on the track who takes us back into dreamland. Lyrically, there is nothing too special about this one, but the vocals are done perfectly to fit the vibe of the song. I am beyond excited to listen to the rest of this album and to explore the catalog of Yves Tumor. Many thanks to H.S. for the introduction to this song.
