Bob Fudge – Colter Wall

I’m finally done with the term, and I’m finally back to being able to jam out all day long at work. It’s a nice feeling for sure. It is an unfortunately temporary arrangement, but I am trying not to take it for granted.
Colter Wall is one of the coolest dudes making country and western music today. If you were to ask him, he would probably identify himself as a rancher rather than a musician or singer-songwriter. His music seems to take second fiddle (pun intended) to his ranch. Hailing from Saskatchewan, Colter has one of the coolest voices out today. It’s pretty unmistakable once you hear him for the first time.
It was hard for me to pick a Colter song to feature today; I didn’t want to choose one that was too well-known, so I actually decided to go with a cover. Colter is a great songwriter, but his rendition of Ian Tyson‘s “Bob Fudge” has always been a favorite of mine.
“Bob Fudge” tells the true story of Robert George Fudge, a cowboy born in 1862. I found a great article that tells his story in Cowboys & Indians that can be found here.
Something about the Colter rendition is just so haunting. I think that could be said about a plethora of Colter’s music; he has the ability to deliver an incredibly dark tone in his music if he so chooses. That being said, he is certainly not a one-trick pony, and I’d encourage all of y’all to check out his catalog if you are unfamiliar.
