Songs of the day, albums of the month, and why I like them

  • What A Fool Believes – The Doobie Brothers Happy April Fool’s Day! I had the pleasure of seeing the Doobie Brothers about a year ago, and it was one of the most fun concerts I have ever attended. The band has certainly still got it, and Michael McDonald is still out of this world vocally. Read more

  • The Question – Mac Miller feat. Lil Wayne I miss Mac Miller. I get rap isn’t for everybody, and my consumption of it these days is nothing compared to what it was in high school. Mac Miller remains one of my all-time favorites, not just in terms of rap and hip hop but also just Read more

  • Fadeaway- BoDeans I think my dad introduced me to the BoDeans when I was in high school, with this song, “Fadeaway,” as well as their biggest hit, “Closer To Free.” I don’t know a ton about the BoDeans themselves, but they’re from Wisconsin and randomly made an appearance on the Netflix show, The Ranch, which Read more

  • Hard Times – Paramore Haley Williams is one of the coolest frontwomen of all time, bringing an awesome energy and great vocals to all their songs. • Look at Miss Ohio – Gillian Welch I first heard “Look At Miss Ohio” in a cover done by Miranda Lambert that is really good, but I think the original by Gillian Welch is my favorite. • Crosseyed Cat – Muddy Waters Muddy Waters was probably the first “real” blues that I was introduced to when I was a youngster. • Where Did Our Love Go (Live) – The J Geils Band Just perusing my music library, there are usually some cool gems I can find that I’d totally forgotten about. In this case, The J Geils Band covering The Supremes‘ classic “Where Did Our Love Go“. I love the guitar work here by John Geils. Read more

  • Summertime Rolls – Jane’s Addiction Summertime Rolls by Jane’s Addiction is one of those songs that just sounds like a Jane’s Addiction song. So true to their style and sound, even if you had never heard it before, if you were at all familiar with Jane’s Addiction, you could probably guess it was their work. Read more

  • Today – Tom Scott (feat. The California Dreamers) “Today“, originally performed by Jefferson Airplane, but featured today as the jazz saxophonist Tom Scott‘s rendition. Tom is a pretty cool dude, and was a member of the Blues Brothers, among so many other things. Check out this link and scroll down to his discography. Pretty incredible. Read more
